Daniel Otero Serves as Visiting Fellow at the University of St. Andrews

Daniel Otero (Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics) is currently overseas serving as a Visiting Fellow in the History of Mathematics at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. He is working there until April 2019 with St. Andrews faculty who manage MacTutor, an online archive which holds detailed biographies on over 2800 mathematicians and scientists across history as well as articles on other topics in the history of mathematics. MacTutor won the Hirst Prize of the London Mathematical Society in 2015, which called it “the most widely used and influential web-based resource in history of mathematics.” Otero will be contributing to MacTutor with articles on the use of history of mathematics in the teaching of mathematics at the undergraduate level, and on the use of primary sources in teaching mathematics. The College of Arts and Sciences congratulates Otero on this opportunity to further scholarship in his academic field and on behalf of Xavier University.
