Suzanne Chouteau and Vietnam Veteran Make Art Together
December 11, 2018
This past November, Suzanne Chouteau (Art Department) attended the Experiencing Veterans and Artists Collaboration reception for the exhibit which opened at the Rutherford B. Hayes Museum in Fremont, Ohio. It was there she met and engaged in deep and meaningful conversation with Ernie Hopkins, one of the two veterans whom she illustrated in an art piece capturing his Vietnam story. Throughout their conversation they spoke on their experience of sharing and Chouteau presented Hopkins with a print for the family of the late Jesse Hill, the other veteran in the illustration. Much to her surprise, towards the end of their heart-warming meeting, Hopkins presented his ‘bronze star’ to Chouteau for her heroism.
To understand more on how Suzanne Chouteau became involved in creating such an incredible illustration, here is a video of her experience filmed by recent graduate of the DIFT program, Eli Bedel.
