Spirit Celebration

|

This time of year reminds me of the second mile of a long run—warmed up, striding, not yet fatigued. A good moment to share our hopes for the academic year ahead.

That makes next Monday a perfect time for our fall CAS College Meeting (details below), followed by the university’s Spirit Celebration on Tuesday.

Not familiar with the centuries-old tradition from which our Spirit Celebration developed? I’ll let our own Fr. John LaRocca, SJ, explain the origin and meaning of the ritual that marks the start of the academic year at all Jesuit universities.

In keeping with the day’s unique significance, all university classes are canceled and offices closed on Tuesday, September 10 between 11:30am and 12:45pm, to allow all students, staff, and faculty to participate in this inclusive expression of our university’s communal identity.

I look forward to seeing you all on Monday, and again on Tuesday.
