Summer reflections

The first week of class leaves precious few moments to reflect. I nevertheless try to do so. Looking back at this summer’s start, I see a familiar pattern: hopeful May goals for which I planned to have plenty of time. Maybe you’ve experienced something similar. This year once again I see that I met my own goals only partly. (Hence I’m feeling woefully unprepared for my favorite run of the year.)
As for the college’s summer goals, I couldn't be more pleased—in particular with the intensive work and impressive outcomes of the three college task forces on shared governance, bookended by the May and August faculty leadership retreats.
Now I’m eager to work together with you to begin implementing recommended changes, to strengthen our college community and better support our mission. See you at the All-College Meeting on Monday.
