Class Year/Year of Graduation:  Senior/2013

Major/Graduate Program: Economics

Newly hired as (position, company):
Project analyst, Procter & Gamble

Where did you hear about this professional opportunity, and what do you think contributed to being hired?  My Xavier mentor told me Procter & Gamble was searching for someone to do part-time work during the school year for my senior year. I applied to a position that corresponded with the academic work I was doing at Xavier. Understanding both the company and the specific job you are applying for is key for any job interview you may encounter.

How did Xavier Career Services help you along the way to achieve this accomplishment?  My mentor helped me in multiple ways from looking over my resume, giving interview tips, answering questions I had about the job and Procter & Gamble, and helping me network with many different people. Xavier's mentoring program can be as serious or casual as you want it to be. It is very flexible and you develop great connections for post-graduation opportunities

Based on your own experiences, what advice do you have for students as they gear up for their job/internship search?  Have a positive attitude going into the job search, accept the fact that you may not get a job or internship on the first try but accept that it's part of the process. Don't be afraid to show your personality during an interview, a good laugh will always ease the tension in an interview.
