Xavier celebrates International Education Week with dancing, dinner and Diwali

Events sponsored by the Romero International Center promote educational exchange for American and international students | November 13, 2008

Dancing, film screenings and an international dinner are among the events on the schedule for Xavier’s celebration of National International Education Week from Sunday, Nov. 16, through Saturday, Nov. 22.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for the global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to seek educational experiences in the United States.

Xavier’s diverse student body enhances this opportunity to engage the Xavier community in considering what it offers the global community and to showcase the impact of international education at Xavier.

Activities during the week include an international fashion show and dinner on Saturday, Nov. 22, in the Conaton Board Room in Schmidt Hall and musical events all week in the Gallagher Student Center. Other events include free admission and transportation to the China Design Now exhibit at the Cincinnati Art Museum, speeches, workshops and the Diwali Festival of Lights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.

All events are free and open to the public except for the Diwali festival, which is selling tickets for $10. For a full listing of events and ticket information for Diwali, call the Romero International Center at 513-745-2864, visit the web site or e-mail mehtad@xavier.edu.
