Xavier Dining wins a Gold award for its residential dining services at the Hoff Dining Commons

This first national award is from the National Association of College and University Food Services | May 28, 2013

Xavier’s Hoff Dining Commons, managed by Chartwells since 2008, won the top residential dining award for medium-sized schools in the 2013 National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) annual competition.

The Gold award is the ultimate professional tribute in college and university culinary arts. The Loyal E. Horton Dining Award in the Residential Dining Concepts category celebrates exemplary menus, presentations, special event planning, and new dining concepts, and provides an avenue for sharing ideas and creative presentations in campus dining services. Six categories address all types of collegiate food service.

The judging for Residential Dining was on the menu’s variety, seasonality, quality and safety in presentation, merchandising and presentation of the food, marketing, nutrition and wellness such as availability of dietary options, nutritional content and nutritional counseling, and other considerations including flexible operating hours, sustainability and incorporation of student workers into the concept’s success.

Jennifer Paiotti, Xavier Dining marketing manager, created the hardbound book that accompanied the application and enabled Xavier to win its first top award.

“Xavier Dining's Residential Dining Services is about excellent quality and customer service,” Paiotti says. “Innovative techniques and trend-setting ideas give our students, faculty and staff more than just a meal. They get a dining experience when they come through our doors. The nomination showed off our wonderful staff and guests and our exceptional quality and service.”

Since 1958, the association has focused on promoting the highest quality food service on school, college and university campuses by providing members with educational and training opportunities, technical assistance, scholarships, industry information and research.
