Xavier Active in International Education Conference this Weekend

Global economy heightens importance of study abroad and of bringing global students to US | November 6, 2009


The NAFSA: Association of International Educators Regional conference will be held at Cincinnati’s Hyatt Regency from November 7-10, with the theme “International Education: No Longer Underground.” 
Xavier will co-sponsor the opening reception with University of Cincinnati, with opening remarks by new University of Cincinnati president Gregory Williams, PhD and Xavier University associate provost for academic affairs Kandi Stinson, PhD. Lea Minniti, Xavier director for international student services is the co-local arrangements chair on the planning committee.
Keynote speaker will be Ms. Charity Wayua, PhD candidate at Purdue University and 2006 alumna of Xavier. She will explore the idea of global citizenship through international education and speak about the Zawadi Africa Education Fund, founded by Susan Mboya, which provides academically gifted young women from Africa scholarships to pursue higher education in the United States. Program graduates return to their communities to lobby for jobs, improved education and enhanced healthcare.
