The Dona Buel Memorial Faculty Concert takes place in Bellarmine Chapel on Sept. 29

Xavier University presents the Dona Buel Memorial Faculty Concert in Bellarmine Chapel on the Xavier campus on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 7:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. This year’s concert features Joy Burdette, soprano, Tony Burdette, tenor, and pianist Jan Corrothers presenting a diverse program of vocal music that includes songs, oratorio arias, opera arias and spirituals.

The program includes works by J.S. Bach, Handel, Mozart, Rossini and R. Strauss among others.

Dona Buel was a piano recitalist and associate professor of music at Xavier who died in March 2008. While serving as chair of the Department of Music, she oversaw the renovation of Edgecliff Hall into Xavier’s music center.

A child prodigy, she played piano with the Cincinnati Symphony at age 12, later graduating from the University of Cinicnnati College Conservatory of Music. She began her teaching career at Edgecliff College and then Xavier University, where she remained for 25 years.
