Students Dance the Night Away for 3rd Year in a Row

Dance Marathon will benefit Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center | January 13, 2009

Usually college students pull all-nighters before exams. But Xavier University students will dance all night to benefit Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center during the third annual Dance Marathon. This year’s theme is “Movies.” Participants will be on their feet from 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 6 to 9:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7 at the O’Connor Sports Center Gym on the Xavier campus, with breaks for meals and snacks every few hours. Visitors are welcome for a $5.00 entrance fee
Each participant must raise $100 to dance plus pay a $10 registration fee for a commemorative t-shirt and meals throughout the evening.
Contestants will be eligible to win fabulous prizes from sponsors including McDonald’s, The Radisson Hotel, Party Source, and Subway.  This year’s goal is to recruit 100 dancers and raise $10,000. Organizers have recruited a 12-person “Morale Team” whose job will be to keep the dancers motivated and upright for the duration of the marathon.
“We’re all really excited for this event,” said Shannon Towle, co-coordinator of XUDM. “We have a great group of student volunteers, and have planned to bring in some recipients of Cincinnati Children’s services to keep dancers mindful of the greater mission - to help raise money for this important organization.”
This energetic and entertaining experience was inspired by colleges and universities joining with the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) to help raise money for local health care organizations. More than $60,000 was raised for the Ryan White Infectious Diseases Fund by the Indiana University Dance Marathon Council at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
CMN's Dance Marathon program has raised more than $1,000,000. There are now dozens of schools and tens of thousands of students from coast to coast holding CMN Dance Marathons.
