Xavier University and the Department of Art are proud to announce an exhibition of art by three graduating seniors – Emily Ducharme, Ceramics/Sculpture, Abigail King, Painting/Drawing, and Matt Kroeger, Graphic Design. The artists’ reception is Friday, March 25, 6:00-8:00 p.m., and the exhibition is open through April 1.
Emily Ducharme presents, Under the Sea, an exhibition of ceramic and metal sculpture. Emily’s art is inspired by her love for the ocean. From waves to the shells underneath, the ocean has inspired the textures, colors, and shapes of her functional ceramic bowls and welded metal stands. The artist hopes that her art will bring a small piece of the ocean into our personal environments. In addition to Fine Art, Emily is also majoring in Marketing.

Abigail King presents, Remembrance: Visions and Revisions, an exhibition comprised of oil paintings on canvas, pastel on paper, and egg tempera on panel. For Abby it is an exploration into the infallibility and truth of human memory expressed through paint. The artist’s work is figurative because she believes most of the indescribable can be shown through our bodies and how we physically interact with the world. Ms. King is a recipient of the McAuley Art Scholarship and Brueggeman Fellows Grant. She is the recipient of the University Art Award from the Department of Art.

Matt Kroeger presents, Williams Avenue, a series of posters designed to help elementary school children learn. In collaboration with the teachers at Williams Avenue Elementary in Norwood, Matt made designs specifically to help students with reading and math strategies. The artist states, “I was influenced by minimalist art and the Swiss design movement, but also learned much from cartoony illustration as well as information design. These pieces, which were created using mostly digital methods, express a direct, straightforward form of communication that makes learning clear and understandable.” Matt will donate this body of work to Williams Avenue Elementary in the hope that these posters will serve as valuable study aids.
