Joseph Feldhaus to Join Xavier University as Legal Counsel

June 1, 2011

Xavier University is pleased to announce Joseph H. Feldhaus will join Xavier as General Counsel and Secretary to the Board. Feldhaus will begin his new duties on July 1.

Feldhaus comes to Xavier from Beckman Weil Shepardson, LLC, the legal firm which has represented Xavier for many years. Through that relationship he has worked closely with Xavier’s top administrators on a variety of issues for nearly three decades.

Feldhaus focused his practice on business and personal real estate, institutional law and general business, with an emphasis on construction and development; purchase, sales and leasing transactions; and finance and taxes.

“Joe’s expertise in these areas will be invaluable as Xavier moves forward to develop the area east of our main campus,” says Xavier President Michael J. Graham, S.J. “He will also be able to guide us in many other arenas as we continue to enhance and grow the University.”

“Coming to the Administration of Xavier is in many ways a coming home for me,” Feldhaus states. “My great uncle Hubert Brockman, S.J. was a past president of Xavier, my uncle William LeSaint, S.J. was at Xavier for many years of his life, and my father Louis Feldhaus taught here for nearly 40 years. I feel like I grew up here, and I look forward to continuing my service to Xavier in this newly created position.”

A Cincinnati native, Feldhaus attended Xavier University in 1972 and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1974. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University in Los Angeles in 1979.  Feldhaus has also volunteered for many years at Tender Mercies, The Volunteer Lawyers for the Poor Foundation, and several other non-profit community organizations.

He and his wife, Marcheta Gillam, also a practicing lawyer, live in Kennedy Heights; their two daughters, Elena and Claudia are grown and live in Phoenix and Chicago respectively.
