Former hospital administrator, college president Nancy Linenkugel OSF is interim dean of College of Social Sciences

Search for new dean begins in the fall with employment by July 2015 | June 11, 2014

Sister Nancy Linenkugel OSF was named interim dean of the College of Social Sciences, Health, and Education (CSSHE) effective July 1. She replaces Dean Mark Meyers, who is transitioning to a faculty role after leading the college since its formation in 2007.

Linenkugel is a 1980 graduate of Xavier’s graduate program in health services administration and is the first alumna to chair the Department of Health Services Administration. She will continue in that role throughout the duration of the interim dean year.

Linenkugel has a 21-year career in hospital administration. She was president and CEO of the Providence Health System and Providence Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio, for 16 years, vice president of St. John Medical Center in Steubenville, Ohio, for five years and president of Chatfield College from 2002 to 2008.

She came to Xavier in 2011 while completing a four-year term on the elected leadership team of her order, the Order of Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio.

“Sister Nancy was a natural choice to serve as interim dean due to being one of the clearest thinkers, experienced leaders, and get-to-win/win persons I know,” said Scott Chadwick, provost and chief academic officer at Xavier.

“I am absolutely confident about her ability to lead the college, the health services administration department, and represent our University externally. All of our CSSHE leaders work together concertedly in a team fashion for the best of Xavier.”

Linenkugel has received numerous awards and recognition, including induction into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Athena Leadership Award in 1992. She is a cellist with several groups, including the Cincinnati Metropolitan Orchestra and the national Medical Musical Group based in Washington, D.C. She holds a doctorate in management from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

The search for the new dean for the college will begin this coming fall for employment effective July 1, 2015.
