The fourth annual national all-media juried exhibition, Art at the X, opened at the Xavier University Art Gallery on Friday, Aug. 27, and will continue through Saturday, Sept. 25.
The exhibit, sponsored by Xavier's Department of Art, was judged by Dennis Harrington, director of the Weston Art Gallery in Cincinnati. There were 266 art entries by 92 artists in 29 states and Canada. Harrington selected 72 pieces for exhibition.
“I was impressed with the overall quality and diversity of artistic mediums that were submitted for the competition," Harrington said. "I felt confident that my final selections would result in an exhibition that showcased a wide variety of artistic disciplines that included painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography and mixed media works ranging from abstraction to representational.
"It is my hope that the resulting exhibition will provide viewers with a thought-provoking and inspiring artistic sampling of the many creative approaches artists employ in communicating their creative thoughts and observations of the world around us.”
The gallery is open Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the A. B. Cohen Center behind the Cintas Center on the Xavier campus.
