March 27, 2012

Xavier University’s spring edition of Community Action Day takes place this Saturday, March 31, from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Somewhere between 100 and 200 students will volunteer at over 20 diverse sites all around Cincinnati, including:

The Civic Garden Center
Gorman Heritage Farm
Granny’s Garden
Healthy Moms & Babes
Interfaith Business Builders
Irish Heritage Center
Little Sisters of the Poor
Lower Price Hill Community School
Mill Creek Restoration Project
NEXUS Community Garden
North Avondale Community Garden
Su Casa Hispanic Center of Cincinnati
St. Margaret Hall
St. Vincent de Paul
Working in Neighborhoods

The day begins with students enjoying a free breakfast and signing up for a service site. After a brief prayer, the students leave for their sites (around 9:30 am). After their work is complete, volunteers engage in reflection with their service group and return to campus around 12:30 pm for lunch together.

Sponsored by Xavier’s Dorothy Day Center for Faith & Justice, Community Action Day is Xavier's largest community service event. The goal is to become more aware of the needs and assets of the surrounding neighborhoods by working with partner organizations from those neighborhoods.
