Team of Xavier students wins the first Cincinnati's Got Talent contest during Redsfest last weekend

Soprano vocalist Taylor Brown and harpist Katie Giuliano share the $1,000 prize | December 7, 2011

Xavier students Taylor Brown, soprano vocalist, and Katie Giuliano, harp, won the Cincinnati’s Got Talent contest at Fox Sports Ohio Redsfest 2011. They performed pop vocalist Adele’s “Someone Like You” arranged by Xavier student Tim Graulty.

Fox Sports Ohio Redsfest, presented by PNC Bank, is an offseason event featuring fan interaction with current and former Cincinnati Reds players, interactive games, memorabilia and more. Proceeds benefit the Reds Community Fund, which supports neighborhoods and children in the tri-state area. This year, for the first time, it also featured a talent contest.

Open auditions were held in November at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Ten semifinalists performed on Dec. 2 during Redsfest before a panel of judges. Five advanced to the finals on Dec. 3. While all five finalists have the opportunity to perform at a 2012 Reds home game, only one—the Brown and Giuliano duo—came away with the $1,000 grand prize.

Brown is a junior music education major from Vail, Ariz. Giuliano is a senior double-majoring in music and early childhood education and is a native of Hamilton, Ohio. Graulty is a senior music education major from Cincinnati.
