Xavier University’s Black Student Association is sponsoring daily events during Hip Hop Week from Sept. 27 through Oct. 1. The public is invited, and all events are free with the exception of the Icebreaker dance on Friday, Oct. 1.
The Hip Hop musical genre began in the 1970s and is primarily African-American with Jamaican influence. Comprised of loop, rapping, freestyle, scratching and beatboxing, it is used to express political, social and personal issues. For more information, call 513-745-3181.

“And the Legacy Continues” Hip Hop Mobile Museum

This exhibit from the archives of the Black History 101 Mobile Museum is a collection of Hip Hop memorabilia spanning 35 years. It includes 150 items such as photos, records, hand-written lyrics and movie posters celebrating the history of this influential music form.

Krush Groove, a 1985 Warner Bros. movie, is based on the early days of Def Jam Recordings and record producer Russell Simmons. It shows the foundation of the Hip Hop movement.
