Xavier University's (Cincinnati, OH) Master of Health Services Administration has been ranked number one in the country for the second time in three years by Modern Healthcare. The ranking is part of Modern Healthcare's "Top Business Graduate Schools for Physician-Executives."

The rankings were based on programs awarding master's degrees with courses that focus on physicians and clinical aspects of health care. Data was collected in January and February of this year and reflects the 2009-10 academic year.

Programs were ranked on five factors: length of time to complete the program, cost of tuition, the number of days students must spend on campus, the age of the program and the total number of graduates.

The Xavier Graduate Program in Health Services Administration, established in 1958, is located in the University's College of Social Sciences, Health, and Education. The Modern Healthcare ranking also noted that Xavier offers a concurrent degree program where students have the opportunity to also complete an MBA.

"The faculty and I are pleased to know that our graduate program has received the number one ranking for a second time. It is always satisfying to know that an excellent journal such as Modern Healthcare has so recognized us," said Ida Critelli Schick, Chair of the Department of Health Services Administration.

"It is an honor to be listed in the rankings from Modern Healthcare," said Mark Meyers, Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Health, and Education. "This validates the tremendous efforts by the faculty, staff, students and alumni of the program as they continue to live the mission of Xavier University, having a positive impact on our healthcare systems."

In 2008, Xavier tied for first with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Xavier's GPHSA has approximately 1,400 students who completed the degree. It was the oldest program of all ranked and its tuition ranked 7th. GPHSA has a strong tradition of success in the field of health services administration. The program is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). Xavier's GPHSA has an excellent national reputation, offers a paid 8-12 month administrative residency under the preceptorship of a senior level manager, has a strong alumni base across the United States and abroad, offers small class sizes for a personal touch, and has been accredited every year since 1968 when accreditation began.

Modern Healthcare is a weekly publication considered the foremost authority on healthcare business nationally.
