The 2009-2010 Madcap Puppet Theatre series continues at Xavier in January

Xavier is one of three venues for Madcap performances in Cincinnati and Louisville | December 9, 2009

The first Hats Off series of performances at Xavier performed by the Madcap Puppet Theatre continues in January with a production of Toby and the Ice Goblin in the Gallagher Student Center Theater. The University formed a partnership with Madcap last year. The company also has partnerships with the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Speed Art Museum in Louisville.

The first shows of the series by Madcap’s giant puppets were performed this year at Xavier in November with a production of Look Out Galileo!

The January production of Toby and the Ice Goblin is about a snow-loving boy named Toby who has a big problem. The selfish Ice Goblin has kidnapped the Elves who make the winter snow. Will we ever see snow again? Find out when Toby and the Snow Elves come alive with Madcap’s Czech Black puppetry which uses black lights to create a magical illusion.

The season ends in March with Annie Oakley’s Wild West Show. Annie Oakley was one of the most famous women of her time, and now she’s back starring in her old Wild West show, Madcap-style. Hilarious characters, tall tales and spine-tingling stunts bring the American tall tale genre to life in a new way. In this, the final show of the season, the only things taller than the tales are the giant puppets.

Performances of Toby and the Ice Goblin take place on Jan. 16 and 17 in the Gallagher Student Theater. Performances of Annie Oakley’s Wild West Show take place on March 6 and 7.  For tickets, call 513-745-3576. Showtimes and additional information can be found at
