Modern Languages Chair Publishes Article

Continues scholarship on popular Spanish author | May 2, 2007

Dr. David Knutson, Chair & Associate Professor of Modern Languages, has contributed to Mulheres Más: Percepçăo e Representaçăo da Mulher transgressora no Mundo Luso-Hispânico (Evil Women: Perceptions and Representations of Women Transgressors in the Luso-Hispanic World), a newly-released collection of scholarly articles edited at the Universidade Fernando Pessoa in Porto, Portugal.

Dr. Knutson's article is titled "Independientes y malas: las figuras femininas en Eduardo Mendoza." (Independent and Bad: Female Characters of Eduardo Mendoza). The study plots women characters in Mendoza's novels against cultural norms in Spain, showing how women have no choice but to transgress social rules in order to lead active, fulfilling lives in their communities.
