Students and fans gather on campus to cheer Musketeers to victory

Festivities start tonight at 9:00 p.m. in the Gallagher Student Center | March 15, 2007

Students, faculty, staff and fans have a lot of reasons to cheer this week. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams are competing in their respective NCAA tournaments.

Students are gathering Thursday, March 15, beginning at 9:00 p.m. in the Gallagher Student Center to watch the men’s basketball team’s first-round NCAA tournament match-up against the Brigham Young University Cougars. Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 9:40 p.m. in Lexington.

A big screen television, complete with sound system, will be set up in the food court on the first floor of Gallagher. The students will be treated to Chipotle, LaRosa’s, Subway and Skyline. There will also be prizes.

In addition, Ryan’s Pub will offer $1 Blue beer, $.25 wings and Musketeer giveaways.

Xavier is making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last seven years. Xavier is making its 21st appearance in postseason play during the last 25 years, including its 17th NCAA Tournament in 25 seasons.

On Saturday, March 17 fans are gathering again at Ryan’s Pub to cheer on the women’s basketball team as they take on West Virginia. Xavier is ranked No. 6 while West Virginia is ranked No. 11. This is the women’s team’s first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2003. Ryan’s will again offer $1 Blue Beer, $.25 cent wings and Musketeer giveaways.
