Xavier Players stage 'Noises Off' Oct. 19-22 in Gallagher Student Center theater

Comedy follows antics of inept acting troupe as it stumbles from dress rehearsal to closing night | October 9, 2006

Xavier Players are staging “Noises Off” by Michael Frayn Oct. 19-22 at the Gallagher Theater. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. each evening. There is also a 1:00 p.m. performance on Saturday, Oct. 21.

“Noises Off” is a comedy that follows the on- and off-stage antics of an inept acting troupe as it stumbles from a bumbling dress rehearsal to a disastrous closing night. Everything that can go wrong does, as actors desperately try to hang onto their lines, their performances and the furniture. The play was made into a film in 1992 starring Carol Burnett and Michael Caine.

The production is being directed by performing arts director Cathy Springfield and includes a 30-foot turntable, which the Players borrowed from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. The turntable supports a two-story set, allowing the audience to see the behind-the-scenes antics.

Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, $15 for adults. For more information call the box office at 513 745-3939.
