Incoming freshmen gather with family, friends, alumni before heading to Xavier this fall

Events planned in more than 14 cities across country during next few weeks | August 8, 2006

Summer may not be quite over, but students across the country are already getting ready for their first year of college at Xavier. To help incoming freshmen, the parents association and national alumni chapters are hosting freshman sendoffs.

“These events welcome new students and families while helping them meet students, parents and alumni from the same town or area before arriving at Xavier for the beginning of classes,” says Kevin Garry, director for alumni chapters. The sendoffs are being held during the next few weeks in more than 14 cities across the country, including Louisville, Cleveland, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Kansas City, Ft. Wayne and Indianapolis. They usually include a picnic or barbeque either at a park or private home for incoming freshmen, current students, alumni, family and friends.

“The freshman sendoffs are also a great opportunity for parents to get answers to any last minute concerns they might have about sending their students off to college,” says Dianne Fisk, director for parent and constituent relations.
