University appoints Gene Carmichael, S.J., acting vice president for student development

Carmichael has worked in areas of student development for past 27 years | August 3, 2006

Gene Carmichael, S.J., has been named acting vice president for student development, replacing Ron Slepitza, who is now the president of Avila University in Kansas City, Mo. Fr. Carmichael assumed his duties on July 1.

Fr. Carmichael has worked in many areas of student development at Xavier during his 27-year tenure. Immediately prior to his new position, he was the associate vice president for mission and ministry and the director and mentor for the service fellows program. In the past, he has also worked in campus ministry, was associate dean of student development, and served as assistant director and staff counselor in the Health and Counseling Center.

Fr. Carmichael continues to direct the service fellows program as acting vice president, and returns to his position in mission and ministry at the end of the academic year. He is not, however, a candidate in the search for Slepitza’s successor.
