Men's basketball rolls past La Salle

Senior All-American David West became the University's all-time career record holder for blocked shots on Tuesday while helping the No. 23 men's basketball team to an 80-47 win over La Salle. West had four blocked shots in the game, giving him 198 in his four years at Xavier and pushing him past current New Jersey Net Aaron Williams. West also had 18 points and 15 rebounds in the game for his 10th double-double of the year and the 56th of his career. He also tied his season-high with six assists. Junior Anthony Myles added 14 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Keith Jackson contributed 11 points and a career high eight rebounds. The Musketeers are now 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and play again on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the University of Massachusetts. The 6:00 p.m. game will be broadcast on ESPN2. The women's basketball team is also on the road this weekend, taking on the University of Richmond on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7:00 p.m. and then heading to George Washington University on Sunday, Jan. 19, to take on the Colonials at noon. The Sunday games is being televised on Fox Sports Net. Basketball isn't the only sport being played on campus, though. On Monday, the Musketeer baseball team began practice in preparation for its season opener on Feb. 15. The team was 27-27 last year and made it to the Atlantic 10 Conference playoffs. The rifle team also returns to action after nearly two months away from the range, traveling to the University of Kentucky on Saturday, Jan. 18 and then to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana on Sunday, Jan. 19. And the University swim teams are in the pool three times this week, traveling to Louisville, Ky., to take on the University of Louisville and the University of Evansville on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 6:00 p.m. On Friday, Jan. 17, the team returns home to host Wheeling Jesuit University at 6:00 p.m. before heading to Cleveland State University on Saturday, Jan. 18, for a dual meet with Duquesne at 1:00 p.m.
