Music professor debuts composition for alto flute

Concert at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church on Sunday also includes violin concerto and vocal solos | November 14, 2005

Assistant professor of music Tom Merrill presented a concert on Nov. 20, at in Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church, which featured the world premiere of a new composition by fellow professor of music Kaleel Skeirik.

The work, titled “Dialogues for Alto Flute and Chamber Orchestra,” was performed by Rebecca Andres, adjunct faculty member. Also performed during the first half of the program was a concerto for two violins by J.S. Bach.

After a brief intermission, Merrill conducted the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Chancel Choir, orchestra and soloists in a performance of Haydn’s “Missa in Angustiis.”

Featured soloists included adjunct faculty member Tom Sherwood on bass and alumni Jason Bachman singing tenor. Blythe Walker sang soprano.
