Students and families celebrate Xavier spirit during Family Weekend

Weekend events include theater, athletic events, city tours and more | October 18, 2005

The University hosts its annual Family Weekend on Friday, Oct. 21, through Saturday, Oct. 22. The weekend is filled with events designed to bring students and their families together to celebrate Xavier spirit.

“Family Weekend is the perfect opportunity for our freshman families to further become a part of the Xavier family,” says J.B. Bailey, assistant director of student life. “It's especially a great way for parents to see all the positive changes taking place in the lives of their children since coming on to campus."

The weekend kicks off with a men’s soccer game on Friday night. The Musketeers take on Fordham University at 7:00 p.m. at the Xavier soccer complex.

On both Friday and Saturday nights, the Xavier Players are presenting Smokey Joe’s Café at 7:30 p.m. in the Gallagher Student Center theater. The musical includes rock n’ roll hits of the 1950s and 1960s.

On Saturday, students and their families have a chance to experience Cincinnati with a trip to either the Contemporary Arts Center or the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame Museum. The Cintas Center doors open at 5:30 p.m. for Musketeer Madness, which kicks off the men’s and women’s basketball season.

The weekend also includes Xavier-style bingo, an art reception featuring the work of African-American artist Romare Bearden, a cornhole game, Mass with University President Michael J. Graham, S.J., “The Amazing Race”-style scavenger hunt and more.
