Second annual Musketeer Mile & 5K Run to benefit athletics

Runners and walkers compete to raise money for cross country/track | July 21, 2005

On Saturday, Aug. 13, runners and walkers are covering ground from Ledgewood Avenue to the Xavier soccer stadium in the University’s second Musketeer Mile & 5K Run, an event that benefits Xavier’s cross country/track scholarship fund.

The Musketeer Mile begins at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K run starts at 10:00 a.m. for runners and at 10:01 a.m. for walkers. Both courses are relatively flat and fast with one major downhill stretch. Course maps are available online.

“We’re excited about this second year annual event,” says Steve Nester, Xavier’s cross country coach. “We are looking to attract over 400 runners and walkers for the two different distances. Last year proved to be quite successful, and hopefully each year will continue to bring more and more participants.”

Race fees are $7 for the Musketeer Mile and $10 for the 5K Walk/Run for those who register early, and participants can register before and on the day of the event. Awards are given to runners and walkers in several categories divided by age, fitness and gender. There is also a raffle and a post-race party in the O’Connor Sports Center parking lot.
