Basketball teams sweep weekend games

The women's basketball team climbed to No. 17 in the ratings on the strength of two wins over the weekend, 77-65 over UMass on Friday night and 70-45 over Rhode Island on Sunday. The No. 24-ranked men's team, meanwhile, recorded its fifth straight win, beating Fordham, 75-61. Also over the weekend, freshman Tara Boothe was named A-10 rookie of the week for the fourth straight week and the sixth time in the last seven weeks. She is only the fifth player in conference history to win the award six times. During a pair of games last week, Boothe averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds. And David West was named A-10 player of the week for the second straight week for his efforts in wins last week over UMass and Duquesne. In other action, the swim teams split a pair of meets, beating Ohio Wesleyan on Friday night, setting two pool records in the process, before losing to Toledo on Saturday. Also, the rifle team traveled to West Virginia, only to be beaten by the Mountaineers.
