University concert choir to perform New Year's Eve with Cincinnati Pops

Performance begins four-state tour, includes Christmas selections and Menotti's The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore | December 22, 2004

Xavier University?s 45-student concert choir is performing with the Cincinnati Pops on New Year's Even at 7:30 p.m. at Music Hall in Cincinnati. The choir is presenting advent and Christmas music during the first half of the concert. The second half of the concert is a performance of Gian Carlo Menotti?s ?The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore.?

The choir, which is directed by Thomas Merrill, is the primary vocal ensemble of the University's music department. It is made up of 45 students who are majoring in a variety of subjects, from music performance to chemistry.

Following the New Year?s Eve concert, the choir embarks on its four-state winter tour in which it is performing five concerts in Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia.

The tour schedule includes: Monday, Jan. 3, Saint Philip Catholic Church, Franklin, Tenn., 7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Jan. 4, Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Athens, Tenn., 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 5, Saint Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville, N.C., 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Jan. 6, Saint Benedict Catholic Church, Richmond, Va., 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 9, Thoburn United Methodist Church, Saint Clairsville, Ohio, 10:30 a.m.
