Men's basketball game highlights weekend

The volleyball season winds down, students dance at the Cincinnati Convention Center and an art exhibit celebrates several mediums | November 5, 2004

The Musketeers begin the road back to the NCAA tournament when the men’s basketball team takes on California University Pennsylvania in an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased through the Cintas Center box office.

Last year the men’s basketball team enjoyed one of it’s most successful seasons ever, posting a 26-11 record, winning the Atlantic 10 championship and advancing to the Elite Eight for the first time in the school’s history. This is the team’s first year under coach Sean Miller.

While basketball is just getting started, the volleyball team hosts its final home game of the season, facing two Atlantic 10 opponents this weekend. The team plays Temple on Friday, Nov. 5, and LaSalle on Saturday, Nov. 6. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday night commemorates Senior Night.

Aside from athletics, the student activities council is sponsoring a student Homecoming dance on Friday, Nov. 5, 9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. at the Cincinnati Convention Center. Transportation is provided to and from throughout the night starting at 8:30 p.m. Tickets, which cost $10, and are on sale at the Gallagher Student Center and at the door.

While students celebrate, the department of art is kicks off its third Annual Regional High School Junior and Senior Juried Exhibition, Nov. 5-19, in the Xavier art gallery in the A.B Cohen Center. This exhibit features work by emerging young artists from 19 local high schools. Mediums include painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, fibers, enameling, jewelry making and mixed media sculpture. An artists’ reception will be held on Friday, Nov. 5, 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., with awards will presented at 7:00 p.m. For more information please call 513 745-3811.
