Student group X-You Decide 2004 holds debate discussion

Third presidential debate draws students to a panel discussion of the election campaign issues with group of experts | October 13, 2004

Xavier students are gathering for a pre- and post-debate discussion today, Wednesday, Oct. 13, with several Cincinnati area government officials and political experts who will watch the third presidential debate together.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Conaton board room at Schmidt
Hall, Gene Beaupre, director of community and government relations, is moderating a discussion that takes place after clips of the previous two debates are shown.

The students and eight panel members, including Eric Rademacher, co-director of the Ohio Poll with the University of Cincinnati's Institute for Policy Research, Timothy Burke, chair of the Hamilton County Democratic Party and manager of the local Kerry-Edwards campaign, and Vice Mayor Alicia Reece, are then watching the debate and participating in a moderated discussion afterwards.

Other panel members include Bruce Terris and Charles Halpern, co-founders of the Center for Law and Social Policy in Washington, D.C., David Beckwith, manager of the Bush-Cheney campaign for Ohio, Gregory Hartmann, Hamilton County clerk of courts, and Michael Barrett, chairman of the Hamilton County Republican Party.

The event is sponsored by X-You Decides 2004, a committee of the student government association organized to inform and educate Xavier student voters about issues of the 2004 presidential election.
