John Edwards' daughter speaks on campus today

Cate Edwards visits during University's annual Club Day event for students | September 13, 2004

Cate Edwards, the daughter of vice presidential candidate John Edwards, is visiting campus today and is speaking at 1:45 p.m. in the Gallagher Student Center.

Cate's visit takes place during the annual Club Day event, when students browse among tables to learn about the many different clubs, organizations and programs available to them.

Cate, whose father is running with Democratic candidate for president John Kerry, is a recent graduate of Princeton University. One of three living children of John and Elizabeth Edwards, she majored in political economics and was active in her sorority, Pi Beta Phi, according to the official Kerry-Edwards campaign web site. She graduated in 2000 at the top of her class from a public high school in Raleigh, N.C.

With her background in politics, Cate has been active in her father's campaign, talking to young voters about relevant issues and the importance of voting.

Her appearance at Xavier today takes place two days before MTV's Rock the Vote stages a major voter registration effort and concert on campus. The Wednesday event features five new rock bands and voter registration tables from noon to 5:00 p.m. in front of the Cintas Center.
