Musketeer Mile & 5K Run to benefit Xavier scholarship fund

Runners and walkers of all levels compete this weekend to raise money for cross country/track in first-time event | August 1, 2004

On Saturday, Aug. 14, runners and walkers will cover ground from Ledgewood Avenue to the Xavier soccer stadium in the University’s Musketeer Mile & 5K Run, an event that benefits Xavier’s cross country/track scholarship fund.

The Musketeer Mile will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K run will start at 10:00 a.m. for runners and at 10:01 a.m. for walkers. Both courses are relatively flat and fast with one major downhill stretch. Course maps are available online.

“We’re excited about this first-year event,” said Steve Nester, Xavier’s cross country coach. “It should bring all ages and levels of abilities together for a fun-filled and festive event. We hope to raise significant money for our scholarship fund and would appreciate the support of our Greater Cincinnati running and walking community.”

Race fees are $7 for those who register early, and participants can register before and on the day of the event. Awards are given to runners and walkers in several categories divided by age, fitness and gender. There is also a raffle and a post-race party in the O’Connor Sports Center parking lot.

The race is presented by Provident Bank with help from Bob Ronckers Running Spot, Chiquita, Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, General Mills, Jillian’s Entertainment Complex, Moore Wallace North America, Inc., Sullivan Design Group, TSC Apparel and Xavier University Cross Country/Track.
