Xavier inducts Hoff into athletic hall of fame

Surprise induction made Wednesday night at basketball banquet; former president credited for Cintas Center, basketball success | April 22, 2004

The University surprised current chancellor and former president James E. Hoff, S.J., during the men's basketball banquet on Wednesday night by inducting him into the Xavier athletic hall of fame. During his tenure as president, Hoff envisioned the benefits of having an on-campus arena as well as a nationally recognized basketball program. That vision led to the creation of the Cintas Center and the development of this year's team, which made it to this year's Elite Eight in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament–the farthest of any Xavier team.

A photo gallery of the banquet shows the emotion. Two full accounts of the induction and Hoff's surprise can be found in the April 22 issue of the Cincinnati Enquirer and the Xavier athletics web site.
