Men's basketball beats George Washington

Lionel Chalmers scores 24 points in win, while tennis teams wrap up spring break with wins, baseball falls short against Miami | March 4, 2004

The men's basketball team began the month of March with a strong performance,beating George Washington University, 83-66. The game was the final regular season home game for the team's four seniors—Lionel Chalmers, Romain Sato, Anthony Myles and Tom Compton. Chalmers led the charge, hitting his first eight shots, including four three-point shots, en route to scoring 24 points to lead the team. Sato added 16 points, while Myles tallied 14 points. Freshman Justin Doellman tossed in 12 points on a perfect night of shooting, hitting all three of his field goal attempts, including a pair of three pointers, and was perfect on four attempts from the foul line.

Xavier is now 18-10 overall this season and 9-6 in the Atlantic 10 Conference with just one more regular season game remaining, at Temple University on Saturday, March 6.

Also Wednesday, the Xavier tennis teams wrapped up their spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., with wins. The women improved to 11-2 on the season after beating Grand Valley State University, 7-0.

The men's team, meanwhile, knocked off Siena University, 6-1. With the win, the men's team improves to 7-6 on the season.

Also Wednesday, the baseball team traveled north to Oxford, Ohio, to take on Miami University. The Musketeers posted five runs in the seventh inning, but fell short in a comeback effort, losing 9-6. The team is now 3-6 overall this season.
