In their first home game since Nov. 17, the men’s basketball team pulled out a 78-74 come-from-behind win over the Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, Dec. 20, at Cintas Center. Senior All-American candidate Romain Sato led the way for Xavier with a game-high 23 points to go with seven rebounds.

The team is now 5-3 overall on the season and travels to Ames, Iowa, on Tuesday, Dec. 23, to take on the undefeated Iowa State University Cyclones. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The game can been seen at 8:00 p.m. as part of the ESPN Full Court package.

Also over the weekend, the women’s basketball team split a pair of games, edging Lipscomb University 72-65 behind 21 points from sophomore Tara Boothe, and then losing to the University of Michigan, 65-56. Freshman Suntana Granderson and Boothe each scored 12 points to lead Xavier, while junior Adeola Olanreqaju, a transfer from North Carolina State University, recorded a double-double in her first game with the Musketeers, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, nine of which came on the offensive end of the court.

The team returns to action after a short holiday break next Sunday, Dec. 28, at the University of Pittsburgh and Wednesday, Dec. 31, against St. Francis (Pa.).
