Xavier alumni build network to improve careers, businesses

Cincinnati chapter’s monthly networking group draws increasingly large crowds | December 19, 2003

Very early on the first Friday of each month, the Schiff Family Conference Center is filled with Xavier alumni. Their presence is not just a memorable visit back to their alma mater. They’re part of the Cincinnati chapter’s growing networking group, an organization designed to help area Xavier graduates who want to grow their businesses, are looking for employment or just want to make University connections.

The group started in May 2003 and has grown each month, with about 70 people attending the December meeting.

“We generally let people mix and mingle for the first 10-15 minutes,” says Mary Ann Schomaker, assistant director of programming for the national alumni association. “Then we have a speaker. Following the short talk, and time permitting, we let everyone introduce themselves and give a one-minute commercial about themselves.”

The networking group also was featured in the Chapter Spotlight in the Fall 2003 issue of Xavier magazine.

The group meets on the first Friday of each month from 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m. The January 2004 meeting will be on the second Friday of the month, since the university is closed on the first Friday for the holidays.
