University hosts A-10 volleyball tournament

This weekend is filled to the brim with homecoming activities, although a handful of campus events are also taking place, such as the Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball tournament at the Cintas Center. The University’s volleyball team is defending it’s A-10 title on Friday, Nov. 22 at 4:30 p.m. against regular season champion Temple. Xavier just handed Temple its only conference loss of the year last weekend. The other semifinal game pits No. 2-seeded Dayton against No. 3-seeded George Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The winners of the two matches meet for the A-10 title on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices for a single-day pass are $5 for adults and $3 for children and students. A two-day pass is $8 for adults and $5 for children and students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling the Xavier ticket office at 513 745-3411. Also on Friday, the rifle team begins the final three days of the Walsh Memorial Rifle Tournament at the rifle range in the Armory. Xavier holds a slim lead over Murray State. And the men's and women's swim teams travel to Miami University for a dual meet along with Valparaiso University. Students are identifying and developing their own leadership skills while learning from their peers on Friday as well, as they participate in the annual emerging leaders retreat. Alumni of the campus ministry’s approach retreat are participating in their own retreat beginning on Friday. The deadline to apply for the Master of Education Comprehensive Exam, which is a graduation requirement for graduate students in education, is Friday. Graduate students have the opportunity to take the free exam on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 1:30 p.m. in Kelley Auditorium, Alter Hall. Friday is also the final day of the exhibition of watercolor paintings by Diane Szczepack at the Cohen Center. The exhibition, "In Pursuit of Form," is on display at the department of art gallery. On Sunday, Nov. 24, the men’s basketball team looks to rebound from its loss to Stanford when it takes on Florida A&M at 2:00 p.m. in the Cintas Center arena. After the game, listen to men’s basketball coach Thad Matta on WLW (700AM). Matta is talking and answering questions on "The Coach’s Show" at 8:00 p.m. The show broadcasts live from the Quality Hotel & Suites on Montgomery Road in Norwood each Sunday nights during basketball season. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for light snacks, dinner and bar service. The event is open to the public and patrons have the opportunity to win Xavier logo items.
