Scholarship, athletics to be celebrated on campus

Edgecliff Scholars reception, All-Sports Preview Night highlight week’s events | September 15, 2003

The Edgecliff Alumni Scholarship Endowment is honoring its new and returning scholars and their sponsors at an annual dinner and reception Monday, Sept. 15, at 6:00 p.m. in the Cintas Center. An unprecedented 84 Xavier students are being honored with more than $76,000 in grants this year, marking the largest group of scholars since the endowment’s start 16 years ago. Meg Olberding, assistant to the city manager and public information officer for the city of Cincinnati, is the event’s keynote speaker. She is a 1992 Xavier graduate and a former Edgecliff Scholar. Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 17, auditions are being held for the Xavier Players’ production of "Cabaret." Auditions take place at 7:00 each night at Long Recital Hall (Edgecliff, Room 201). Tuesday, Sept. 16, Xavier fans, friends, faculty and family are invited to attend the first All-Sports Preview Night in the Cintas Center. The evening features Mike Bobinski, associate vice president and director of athletics, who is delivering a "State of Xavier Athletics" address. Bobinski also is introducing head coaches and spotlighting some of the players for the upcoming athletic seasons. Cost of the evening is $20 per person, which includes drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Also on Wednesday, the Ethics/Religion and Society program is showing the film "The Next Industrial Revolution" in Alter Hall B-1 at 4:00 p.m. The film highlights the work of architect and designer William McDonough, who is scheduled to lecture at Xavier as part of the E/RS series on Sept. 28-29.
