David West wins two more awards over weekend

After winning the national player of the year award from the Associated Press on Friday, David West added to his trophy case over the weekend two more awards. On Saturday, the 6-foot-9 senior forward from Garner, N.C., received the Senior Class Award, which honors the top senior player in the nation, and on Sunday he won the NABC/Pete Newell Big Man Award at the annual National Association of Basketball Coaches awards show. This season, West has also won the Atlantic 10 Conference player of the year award for an unprecedented third straight year, the Oscar Robertson Trophy from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association as national player of the year and the Basketball Times national player of the year award. He's also one of five finalists for the 2003 Wooden Award, which will be announced on April 12. He averaged 20.4 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game as a senior in leading Xavier to a 26-6 overall record and the regular season A-10 conference championship.
