Xavier University Moves Up on 2013 Military Friendly School Ranking

Victory Media has named Xavier University a Military Friendly School for 2013. This is the fourth straight year Xavier has been recognized. Previously, Xavier has been among the top 20% in the nation. This year it is among the top 15%. The complete list is at

Barack Obama’s signing of the Post 9-11 GI Bill meant an influx of veterans taking advantage of educational benefits. In particular, it presents Christian universities with a unique opportunity to educate, mentor, and minister to veterans returning from service war zones, such as Afghanistan and Iraq. Many of these veterans begin their education while suffering both physically and psychologically.

Xavier University’s 175th commencement ceremonies will be Saturday, May 11 at the University’s Cintas Center. Tickets are not required and ceremonies are open to the public. A Baccalaureate Mass will be held May 10 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cintas Center on Xavier’s campus. On May 11, Xavier will confer 1,102 undergraduate degrees beginning at 9:00 a.m. and 853 graduate degrees beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Xavier University Awards Second Round of Clare Boothe Luce Scholarships

Xavier University has awarded three female students scholarships for women in chemistry, computer science or physics from the Clare Boothe Luce (CBL) program of the Henry Luce Foundation. Students will be designated as CBL Scholars for their junior and senior years. The first round of CBL Scholars, under Xavier’s fourth grant from the Luce Foundation, was announced in March of 2012.

A one-mile walk/run around the Xavier University campus will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, to support the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. The event starts in front of Bellarmine Chapel. Shirts are available for $20, with proceeds benefitting “One Fund Boston,” set up by Boston officials to help bombing victims.

Xavier University is providing space for the UCanSpeakForMe annual Cincinnati Summit to Honor Crime Victims and Advocates on April 22 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. It will be held in the Conaton Learning Center’s Kennedy Auditorium at the corner of Dana Avenue and Francis Xavier Way on the Xavier campus. The organization provides information on how to interact with law enforcement and be proactive around the issue of cold case murders.
