Matthew Anklan is an in-demand trumpet artist from Cincinnati, Ohio who has performed and recorded with many notable artists and groups including Tito Puente, Jr., Bootsy Collins, Jeff Hamilton, Gerald Wilson, The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Famous Blue Wisp Big Band, Bob Beldon, Fred Hersch, Carnival Cruise Lines and many more. Equally at home in any genre of music, Matthew maintains a very active performance schedule.

Matthew regularly performs with several groups in the Cincinnati area including The Cincy Brass, The Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Leroy Ellington and the E-Funk Band, and the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. Matthew also tours with Broadway shows, when time allows. Recently, he has played lead trumpet for Sister Act - A Divine Musical Comedy, Shrek the Musical, and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. He has also played dozens of regional theater productions.

Matthew also leads his own groups which include a big band, jazz quartet, and a brass quintet. In addition to an active performance career, Matthew teaches Jazz Trumpet at the University of Dayton and Xavier University. Matthew’s trumpet students have the opportunity for a diverse educational experience that will prepare them to play or teach in any genre.

Matthew earned his Master of Music at the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), University of Cincinnati. He also completed his Bachelor of Music, Jazz Studies at CCM, with additional studies at Morehead State University.

Matthew Anklan performs exclusively on J. Fred Powell Signature Trumpets and uses Torpedo Bags cases for all his travel needs.
