Organ Performance

Dr. Helmut Roehrig was Chair of the Music Department at Edgecliff College and Xavier University from 1981 to 1998. During his tenure, he was also the director of choral activities and Professor of organ. He traveled with the concert choir and the vocal chamber ensemble to Europe giving concerts in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria. He was primarily responsible for the establishment and development of the Music Department from its inception to its present status as a vital part of the university. A Music Scholarship honoring Dr. Roehrig was established upon his retirement. Currently, he continues to teach organ on an individual basis in the music department. He is founder and music director of Musica Sacra. This interdenominational concert chorus performs masterworks of sacred music which are no longer part of regular church services in church settings throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. The choir has also performed in Europe's historic churches. Dr. Roehrig is presently also Director of Music at Christ the King Church in Mt. Lookout. Dr. Roehrig received his early education in Germany, graduating from the Institut fur Kirchenmusik in Mainz and from the Staatliche Hochschule für Music in Frankfurt. He holds a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
