Campus Housing and Meal Plan Credits

Xavier University will issue credits for unused campus housing and meal plans (room and board) resulting from the disruption of the spring 2020 semester.

  • The credit does not extend to the small number of students who remain in campus housing or to those who continued to utilize campus dining services past the standard removal date of March 23, 2020.
  • Xavier will not be offering credits for tuition or other fees.

If applicable, room and board credits will appear on the student's monthly eBills on Wednesday, April 15. Students are encouraged to review their eBill after that date.

Credit process

Credits will first be applied toward existing balances. If the account has a negative (credit) balance, students will have three options for their credit:

  1. Apply the credit to reduce the amount owed in a future semester;
  2. Receive a refund (issued in accordance with the student’s selected BankMobile Refund Preference); or
  3. Donate all or part of the credit to Xavier University.

On April 16 an email will go out to all students who received a room and/or board credit. That email will provide more information about the options listed above. Students will need to select an option before April 21. Refunds will be processed on April 22. In order to get your refund quickly and electronically the Office of the Bursar encourages you to setup a BankMobile Refund Preference. If you have received a direct deposit refund from BankMobile in the past no action is required. If you have never setup your preference you can get started by visiting https://bankmobiledisbursements.com/refundchoices/

This is also a good time to update your Title IV authorizations. This is done by following these simple steps:

  1. Visit www.xavier.edu/students
  2. Click "Self-Service"
  3. Click "Billing & Payment/Bursar Information"
  4. Click "Title IV Selections"
  5. Answer the three questions and click the box under "Title IV Agreement"
  6. Click "Submit"

To ensure a quick, easy, and secure disbursement of your refund, the Office of the Bursar recommends setting up your refund preference and Title IV authorizations before April 22. If you have questions or need additional assistance please contact the Office of the Bursar at XUBursar@xavier.edu

Campus housing credit

Based on a standard housing removal date of Monday, March 23, students in campus housing will receive a prorated credit for the remainder of the spring semester.  There were 117 days for which students were to be in housing from January 13-May 8, 2020.  There were 46 remaining full days for which housing was to be provided from end of March 23-May 8.  Students were therefore not able to remain in housing for 39% of the semester.

To determine credits, the room rate was multiplied by a credit factor of 0.393162.  This results in the below credits:

Meal plan credit

The following calculations are made with the understanding that there were 49.888 days of board meal services remaining at the time that University housing officially closed on March 23. The University Cabinet has approved that remaining unused Dining Dollars balances would roll forward into the 2020-21 academic year. Graduating students may request a refund of Dining Dollars if more than $25 remains in the account, per policy. After checking the account balance, email Michelle Dietz at dietzm2@xavier.edu to request a refund. If the refund is approved, it will be applied as a credit to their Bursar account.

Xavier Blue

  • $3170 - $400 Dining Dollars = $2770 divided by 104.332 total spring board days = $26.55 per day
  • $26.55 x 49.888 board days remaining = $1324.53 refund

Xavier Silver

  • $2970 - $200 Dining Dollars = $2770 divided by 104.332 total spring board days = $26.55 per day
  • $26.55 x 49.888 board days remaining = $1324.53 refund

105 Block Plan

  • $1280 - $150 Dining Dollars = $1130 divided by 105 meals = $10.76 per meal
  • $10.76 x # of meals remaining = expected board refund amount

80 Block Plan

  • $1100 - $150 Dining Dollars = $950 divided by 80 meals = $11.88 per meal
  • $11.88 x # of meals remaining = expected board refund amount

40 Block Plan

  • $670 - $150 Dining Dollars = $520 divided by 40 meals = $13.00 per meal
  • $13.00 x # of meals remaining = expected board refund amount

25 Block Plan

  • $485 - $150 Dining Dollars = $335 divided by 25 meals = $13.40 per meal
  • $13.40 x # of meals remaining = expected board refund amount
