Call for Applications for APEX Faculty Director

The Adult and Professional Education at Xavier (APEX) program is seeking applications for a Faculty Director who will work collaboratively with the APEX staff and faculty advisory group to oversee academic offerings, communicate with faculty, and be responsive to the needs of adult students.

APEX was established in 2018 to serve students aged 24+ seeking to further their undergraduate education. APEX day/evening students can enroll in any Xavier major, while APEX Accelerated Degree Completion (ADC) students can complete the Bachelor of Liberal Arts (BLA) or BA in Organizational Leadership. APEX staff oversee marketing, recruitment and admissions; advise students and promote their success; work with colleges to offer needed ADC courses; and manage ADC program assessment.

The APEX Faculty Director will receive a teaching load reduction of one course per semester and academic year stipend, to contribute approximately 25% of his/her time during the academic year to this role. The Faculty Director will serve a two-year term, subject to review after the first year, and potentially renewable for a third year. The role will begin in fall 2021.

The APEX Faculty Director will collaborate with APEX staff, in consultation with the APEX faculty advisory group, on the following:

  • Contribute to the vision and strategic direction for APEX
  • Advocate for APEX students and serve as a liaison to faculty, in order to increase the visibility and support of adult students
  • Co-direct the BLA and Organizational Leadership programs, with responsibility for curriculum-related issues and assessment oversight
  • Assist with the creation and approval of new curricular offerings
  • Participate in APEX events for students, including Alpha Sigma Lambda induction, social gatherings, and commencement-related programs
  • Serve on the APEX faculty advisory group
  • Connect with colleges or departments to address student issues related to curricula, when needed
  • Participate in conversations related to recruitment opportunities, such as through articulation agreements
  • Participate in professional development related to adult and continuing education

 Qualifications expected for the APEX Faculty Director for APEX include:

  • Enthusiasm for adult undergraduate students at Xavier
  • Experience with diverse student populations
  • Openness to and/or experience with emerging curricular models, particularly those serving non-traditional student populations
  • Experience with program assessment
  • Experience leading faculty groups and/or initiatives

 Additional desired qualifications:

  • Experience with teaching adult undergraduate students at Xavier
  • Experience with teaching online classes
  • Experience with leading and/or marketing academic programs, including recruiting students

Application Process 

Full-time faculty from all disciplines are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit proposals following the format outlined below.  Applications will be reviewed by a panel including the APEX Director, Assistant Provost for Online and Continuous Learning, and representatives from the APEX faculty advisory group.  The panel will review applications and interview finalists. After the panel provides its own judgment regarding priority among the applications, the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs will have the final voice in selecting the APEX Faculty Director.
