Item to come Tuesday, Sept. 13, from hot off press U.S. News & World Report. For the second year in a row, Xavier University has also been ranked among the top master's universities in Washington Monthly magazine's "2011 College Rankings." Xavier is ranked number 14 among master's universities out of 553 listed.

Mass, Walk of Remembrance Held on 9/11 Anniversary
Hundreds of Xavier students, staff and family members gathered for the University community's 172nd annual "Spirit Celebration Day," which this year happened to fall on Sunday, Sept. 11. While the "Spirit Celebration" has always been a part of the Jesuit tradition that celebrates the beginning of the academic year, this year's event took on a more somber tone in light of the 10th anniversary of the Twin Towers tragedy. University President Michael J. Graham, S.J., led a noon Mass of the Holy Spirit in the Cintas Center, immediately followed by a "Walk of Remembrance of 9/11."

Brueggeman Speaker Series Brings In Big Guns
A world-class journalist, a White House insider, a Pulitzer Prize-winner and a civil rights leader are among those speaking on campus this autumn. James Fallows, speaking on Oct. 27, is a national correspondent for The Atlantic, has reported extensively around the globe, worked as President Carter's chief speechwriter, and for two years served as editor of U.S. News & World Report. Other speakers include cyber-terror guru Richard A. Clarke (see more details below), Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sonia Nazario (Enrique's Journey) on Oct. 6, and Lani Guinier (the first tenured black woman professor at Harvard Law School) on Sept. 25. The events at Cintas Center are free and open to the public.

Men's, Women's B-Ball Schedules Finalized
The men's basketball team, coming off six straight trips to the NCAA Tournament, announced its 2011-2012 schedule, which includes games against Purdue, University of Cincinnati and Butler. Visit www.goxavier.com for the game and televised event schedule. Also: Xavier women's basketball released its 2011-2012 schedule last week, including a 14-game Atlantic 10 slate. Xavier signed a three-year TV rights agreement with Fox Sports Ohio for broadcasts of Xavier's men's basketball games.

New Photo Exhibit Pays Tribute to Nazi Resistance Group
A moving photography exhibit depicts the participation of seven students from the University of Munich in the Nazi resistance group "White Rose." The exhibit is now on display through Oct. 10 in the Gallagher Student Center.

Former White House Advisor Speaks on Cyber Espionage
The greatest threats we face may no longer be traditional wars and crimes but those committed in cyberspace. Can terrorists shut down our electrical grids? Can criminals bring down our financial systems? Join Richard A. Clarke, who has advised three presidents on security, counter-terrorism and cyber-security, as he presents "Crime, Espionage and War in Cyberspace." Reunion Weekend tips off Nov. 4-6 for those classes ending in a 1 or 6. Registration is now live, including a party at Dana's, pictures on the Cintas Center court, lunch in the new caf and a contest to win courtside seats.

Want to see how chapters are staying active? Check out this event: The Charlotte area alumni are scrambling into the second annual All-Ohio Golf Outing on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Old Sycamore Golf Plantation. There are prizes galore, including the best golf-themed costume.

Diamondhead Classic Slated for Hawaii
Games for the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii are now locked in. The Musketeers me's basketball open play on Thursday, Dec. 22 vs. Long Beach State. Dana Gardens All the Rave
Munchie mainstay Dana Gardens (with the motto "An Irish Possession, A Xavier Tradition") gets thumbs up in a restaurant review that names it a "Xavier institution."
