Back to the Bible takes place in the Clock Tower Lounge of the Gallagher Student Center. Individuals are asked to sign up to read publicly for 15 minutes in the language of their choice and from the Bible of their choice. To register as a reader, go online to reserve 15-minute shifts and for additional information. |

Fall jazz concerts
The Xavier University Jazz Ensemble is performing five special concerts this fall that resemble the atmosphere of the old jazz clubs. Instead of neat rows of chairs, audience members are seated at tables where they can enjoy snacks and beverages while imagining they are listening to Charlie Parker at Birdland, Dizzy Gillespie at The Blue Note or even B.B. King at The Regal. The three remaining performances are:
- Sundays, Nov. 8 and 22, at 8:15 p.m. in Xavier's Edgecliff Recital Hall.
- Friday, Dec. 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lyric, 8907 Reading Road.
The on-campus events are free. Admission for the Lyric concert is $5, which includes admission, music, snacks, ice and soft drinks. Attendees are invited to bring their own beverage for this show. |

Shantytown turns 20
Xavier students kicked off Shantytown 2009 on Sunday, Oct. 18, by constructing temporary shelters on Xavier's academic mall and moving into them for the week. The annual event has taken place at Xavier for 20 consecutive years to educate people about the struggles of homelessness. The theme this year was homelessness among young adults, ages 18-24. Group discussions took place to educate people about the causes of homelessness in this population, the services offered in our area and what individuals can do to help. |
