Spring Commencement set for May 14
Xavier celebrates its 173rd Annual Commencement Saturday, May 14. The undergraduate Commencement speaker is Adobe founder, Charles Geschke. Outgoing provost, Roger Fortin, is the graduate ceremony speaker. John Lechleiter '75, the CEO of pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly Co., is the distinguished alumnus. And local teacher and activist Michael Moroski '01 is this year's Magis Award winner.

Xavier posts record numbers for fall freshman class
For the third straight year, Xavier has drawn a record freshman class. More than 1,100 students enrolled by the May 1 deadline to start this fall. The new residence hall, opening in August, offers 535 new beds to help house everyone comfortably. |

Former Muskie named women's basketball coach
Xavier's new women's basketball head coach is Amy Waugh '03, herself a former standout Muskie point guard. Waugh has been an assistant coach for the women's team for the past two seasons. Before that she was assistant coach at Wake Forest for five seasons and Youngstown for one season. During her time as a player at Xavier, Waugh led the Musketeers to three NCAA appearances. |

Men's basketball announces 2011-2012 home schedule
The men's basketball team announced a 2011-2012 home schedule, which Coach Chris Mack calls "arguably the best we've ever had." The lineup includes 16 games against teams like Georgia, Gonzaga, Purdue and the Crosstown Shootout against the University of Cincinnati. 1st Lt. Michael L. Runyan 5K Run/Walk
Dust off your sneakers and run for a cause. The 1st Lt. Michael L. Runyan 5K and one-mile fun run/walk, takes place at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 29, in Geneva, Ohio. Runyan, a 2008 graduate in criminal justice, was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq last summer. He was 24 years old. Register online. Proceeds from the race benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. |

Federal Reserve Bank executive to speak on campus
Sandra Pianalto, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, is speaking on "Perspectives on the Economic Outlook and Monetary Policy" at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, in Xavier's Kennedy Auditorium in the Conaton Learning Commons. Xavier opens new MBA site in Northern Kentucky
The Williams College of Business opens a new off-site MBA program this July in the expansive Columbia Executive Center in Fort Mitchell, Ky. This is its third off-site location. Williams Business College dean says farewell
Ali Malekzadeh, dean of the Williams College of Business, is leaving Xavier to become the Edgerley Family Dean of Business Administration at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. He assumes his new responsibilities at Kansas State on July 1. He came to Xavier in 2003.

Women of Excellence Giving Circle awards $58,000 At its annual Giving Circle awards program luncheon on May 3, the Women of Excellence announced the winning projects that are receiving $58, 047 this year. The 10 winning projects for 2011 are: 1 in 4 Day; The 2011 Summer Service Internship Program; Bike XU; Creating Relationships of Justice and Care; Engaging Middle School Girls in Computer Science; Tools for Living with Greater Wisdom and Compassion; Touching History; Tuition Runs Out Day 2012; Women of Excellence Scholarships; and the XU Mentoring Program.
