Mack takes over
The University introduced Chris Mack as the new head coach of the men’s basketball team on Wednesday, April 15. Mack, a 1992 graduate and two-time Musketeer team captain, was Xavier’s director of basketball operations from 1999-2001 under the late Skip Prosser. He spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Wake Forest under Prosser from 2001-2004 and then returned to Xavier as an assistant coach under Sean Miller. During his 10 years at Xavier and Wake, Mack coached nine teams that made postseason play, including eight that made the NCAA Tournament. Those appearances included three second rounds, two Sweet 16s and one Elite Eight. Mack wasted no time getting his staff in place. He brought in former Xavier team captain Pat Kelsey as associate head coach, hired assistant head coach Orlando "Bino" Ranson, promoted Travis Steele to assistant coach and added former Xavier player Brian Thornton as director of basketball operations. |
